When miniDSP started back in 2009, the miniDSP 2x4 was one of their debuting products. By combining powerful but affordable hardware with easy to use programming applications -or plugins-, miniDSP created a new standard for DSP solutions. This compelling combination meant a revolution for consumer DSP technology. Thanks to constant revisions, the miniDSP 2x4 still is a very popular and viable product in our DSP modules category.
The 2x4 takes two analogue input signals, processes the signals according to your program and passes them to the next device over 4 independent outputs. There is huge flexibility in how the signals get processed. This creates a fast array of potential applications, ranging from active crossovers for a two-way stereo system and audio mixing applications to subwoofer integration and trying prototype filters for your new design! The unit can be powered through USB but also accepts a 5 – 24 VDC supply on the 2.1 x 5.5 mm DC connector.
The 2x4 plugins have a clear GUI that provides an intuitive way to program filters and adjust settings so they match your needs. The 2x4 can be programmed real-time, allowing you to finetune the filters while listening to your reference material.
The 2x4 is also available as kit version; Check out the miniDSP 2x4 Kit when you are looking for a more modular approach.
Q: I noticed there are two versions available; RevA and RevB. Which one do you supply?
A: We only supply RevB. Rev(ision) suggested a whole different version, but A and B only differ on the max input level. RevB. allows a maximum input level of 2 Vrms. The maximum input level can easily be changed through a jumper. If you feel comfortable opening up the unit (only a screwdriver required), you can change RevB into RevA and vice versa yourself.
Q: There are multiple plugins available for the 2x4, which one should I choose?
A: We recommend the 2x4 Advanced plugin. This plugin supersedes the other options in most applications. It allows for PEQ filters on all in- and output channels and matrix mixer for flexible signal routing. The other plugins are more focused on specific applications. Many of these applications can also be achieved through the 2x4 Advanced while leaving the options open if you wish to use your 2x4 for other purposes.
